They (whoever it is that appointed Them, I'd really like an interview) say that having kids is so great because it's like reliving your childhood all over again, or getting in touch with your inner child. I can't decide if that's because a) They had a childhood in which they had to assume the responsibilities of running a household at birth or b) They left out the end of the sentence, which follows something like 'because your children will drive you to levels of immaturity in which you can't fathom how having a good twenty years on this small person gives you no discernable advantage, aside from being able to know where all the treats are located.'
Yesterday was a great day, though (although I did have one of those other kinds of days two weeks ago- one of my lowest mommy moments yet). We made some Valentines and listened to some books on tape. The Shrinky Pinks got a SpongeBob SquarePants CD/tape player for Christmas, and I would say it was the biggest hit of all of the gifts. I love how retro they look, sitting next to the radio, listening to 'I'm a Little Teapot' for the twelveteenth time.
I loved getting the books on tape from the library when I was a kid- they still come in those plastic bags with the hard plastic handles and locking snaps. We got two Clifford books, and I just love the fact that even though there is a lot of messed up stuff for kids these days, there is still a ton of stuff that I remember playing with.
Like the Lite Brite that I got 'for the kids' and the Easy Bake Oven that they'll be getting in a year or two. Can't wait to relive waiting for a cake to cook for five hours by the power of a 40 watt bulb.
