In the clink

Since yesterday began what we in the Pink family call the trifecta (two birthdays and one anniversary, all falling in a 10 day span, just between the four of us), I am totally copping out and doing a meme.  But it's a holiday one!

Dscn1165

Eggnog or hot chocolate?  Both are great in coffee, but solo, gotta go with SilkNog.

Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?  Unwrapped, but maybe later on they'll start getting wrapped (you wrap a bike, smartyhead).

Colored lights on the tree/house or white?  Colored, baby.  Colored all the way.  While I respect the idea of white lights, it just doesn't do it for me.  Maybe in business parks, where they do the trees with a bajillion lights, but not anywhere else.

Do you hang mistletoe?  Nope, only because I haven't been able to find any in recent years.

When do you put your decorations up?  The day after Thanksgiving, although I would do it earlier if other people *coughMrPinkcough* would let me.  By earlier, I mean June.

What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?  What the fuck is that supposed to mean?  You mean I'm supposed to eat something other than dessert?  Ok, a gingerbread latte.

What is your favorite holiday memory as a child?  My favorite holiday memory actually has to do with Thanksgiving, during my first year in college, so I guess that doesn't count.  It was probably with some of the unexplained gifts- like the Year of Cashmelle (my stepdad could never turn down a bargain on synthetics) or the wine bottle tableside clamp thing that looked more like a marital aid.

When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?  I don't remember.  Great story, eh?

Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?  Not usually, although now we spend Christmas Eve with my mom and her boytoy, and Christmas with just us, so technically, yes.  Although there was a sleigh centerpiece that always had a small gift (seriously small- like a roll of film) in it, so I guess yes.

How do you decorate your Christmas tree?  With whatever the children like.  I have a massive Hallmark collection thanks to my great grandmother, so it is mostly those.

Snow!  Love it or dread it?  Love it.  Love it.  Love it.

Can you ice skate?  I have a couple times, so I'm not too confident, although we keep meaning to go to the outdoor rinks- Junior Pink has been asking for it this year.

Do you remember your favorite gift?  Like I said before, I'm a peeker, so I knew about a lot of gifts in my childhood.  Looking back, though, now I would say it was the quilt my mom handmade (the entire thing- handsewn- it's a Robbing Peter to Pay Paul pattern) using the fabrics from clothes she made me in my childhood (although this was technically a birthday gift).  I'm never going to knit anything that fabulous.

What is your favorite holiday tradition?  I'm not sure- we don't have many hard and fast traditions yet, but I love our late night drives around the neighborhood to look at lights (our neighborhood has some awesome houses), or the tradition that I've carried on from my mom and that being that December 25th is the cook's day off.

What is your favorite part about Christmas morning?  Either my mimosa or the kids' exclamations.

Which do you prefer- giving or receiving?  Giving, of course (gotta love those questions like on the Seventeen quizzes- 'What would you do if your best friend killed a nun?  a) Start shoveling b) Feign ignorance when asked about the deceased i.e. 'Sister Agnes?  Sister Agnes who?' c) Turn them in and then bathe in the holy water at your local place of worship or d) Take the nun's place, hoping you remembered enough from your confirmation to go unnoticed for the next 70-odd years').  It is a great feeling to give something that someone really loves, wanted or needed.

What is your favorite Christmas song?  I like almost all Christmas songs, although there are a few versions (Madonna, I'm talking to you) I hate.  Out of the non-traditionals, I am crazy about Last Christmas, All I Want for Christmas is You and We Need a Little Christmas.

Candy canes- yuck or yum?  Take a look at the picture and you decide.

And yes, by showing this I am totally admitting to being the creator.  In my defense, it was for Shrinky's My Little Pony party, and it was way cuter in my mind, when envisioned as a twist on those reindeer candy canes, instead of Beaker with hair extensions come to life.

Love this meme! such a fun read... this is one I may actually write up on my blog ;)

Ha - Seventeen quizzes. That made me *lol*

xo

That candy cane is hilarious! What did you use for the mane?

Fun read but it made me look like an even bigger Scrooge than I already am!!!

oh my god! (said in a 16 year old voice!) my favorite christmas song is "last christmas" by wham too!

dude, christmas is so much more fun with kids around.

I loved the stories.

That looks like it would make a really comfortable neck pillow.

Fun to know you can channel Beaker on a whim. As for the Seventeen quiz, my answer is B.

Hee hee! Beeker candy canes!!

Such fun, such fun .... :) And to think we haven't even decorated yet! (Bad bad mother)

Beaker candy cane. Hehe, I love it!

You are definitely a Christmas girl. I'm a Thanksgiving lover and a Christmas "okay, I'll do it because I have to"-er. But I do love to whistle Christmas songs year-round!

Oooh, a Christmas meme. YEAH! I'm so stealing this one.

This is coming from the girl that has 2 christmas trees and she would have more if she had the time to get them up. (although I think I am getting one of those 3-4 footers to go in the gable window of the upstairs bonus room - waiting for the after xmas sales though! wink)

love love love Christmas.

Hey, do you do the 12 days of Christmas and then celebrate the epiphany? If you do, you know you get to keep all the decorations up at least until January 6th!

Tee hee!

I love Christmas and it is so nice to know that one of my good friends loves it as much, if not more, than I do! :)

I really like that wreathe!

happy birthday girlie!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BABY! Have a great one ;)
xo

Hey there, Maryse sent me to wish you a Happy Birthday! Hope it's a great one!

Me too. I mean, not my birthday, Maryse sent me over to wish you a happy one. So...

Happy Birthday! Have a fabulous day!

Your meme makes me totally impatient for Xmas!

And happy b'day! Hope it is great!

Maryse sent me to wish you a happy birthday. So happy birthday! I hope you have a great day!

And I like your funky wreath and love the Beaker candy cane!

Birthday! Birthday! Hip, hip, hooray!

Now go have a mojito.

I'd grab a shovel because there's no way I could fake being a nun.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Mwah! Happy Birthday! I hope you have an awesome day darlin'!

Love your answers, and Beaker agrees too: "Meeee Meee Meee Meee Meee"

Reason #297 why I love reading your blog:

There are always so many things I want to comment on. Sweet Jesus. Do you really want to take the chance of meeting me in real life? You're not going to be able to get a word in edgewise.

Just the highlights: While I am not a big Muppets fan, I love Beaker. Especially his appearance on the muppets version of "The 12 days of Christmas". A song that is in frequent rotation on KOIT.

SilkNog. Just tried it this morning for the first time. I was dissapointed. *sigh* What is this lactose intolerant girl supposed to do when it comes to egg nog?!

Putting up decorations before Thanksgiving. I would totally do it too, if Randy didn't mind. He says he doesn't, but I don't believe him.

Oh, and gingerbread lattes..of course. Mmmmm...

well, cathi, merry christmas to you, and i tried my first gingerbread latte this week. Silknog????? Seriously???

Happy Belated Birthday!

As a child, I loved sitting around the tree and singing Christmas Carols,
