Time to make the donuts

Dscn2489

I think it's fair to say that I am obsessed with donuts.  I'm not sure what it is- my first home being in walking distance of the Original Donut Conglomerate, the fact that I can pretend that they're bagels, their amazing pairing with coffee, or their involvement in one of the best kid's books ever- they're just awesome.  However, starting a few years ago, there is not a single Dunkin Donuts in my entire state (and they're selling gingerbread lattes now- are they trying to break my heart?).

I don't feel like I can properly convey the enormity of this tragedy.  There all you Easterners are, donuts running free through the streets, while out here we're stuck with Donut Seeds (to their credit, they are amazing warm) and a wannabe (to be honest, in a side by side comparison, they are probably exactly the same as DD, but their colors aren't pink, orange, and brown, so fuck 'em).

So, instead, I console myself with this hat (the Basic Cable from Stitch N Bitch Nation, knit using Lamb's Pride).  Yes, I may look like I'm ready to hand Margaux her iced with skim and splenda, toss off a postpartum hot cocoa and donut to Wendy, via Robby, let Lola pee in my bathroom while she's in route to her next client and beware the wrath of Maryse, lest any dairy lighten her dark, dark blend.  I don't care.  I like to think of it as a little knit Secret.  If I knit it, it will come.

Hope it works! I too am a donut-phile, and fortunately (unfortunately?) we have what you seek just down the street...

How cute! The DD colors are great.

haha this is the best post. especially that last photo. look at you ms. drive through DD girl. ha!

honestly, the donuts aren't all that. i go there just for the coffee.

Thank you so much for opening your bathroom! You should also know that I'll load up on some dough-nuts (anything with chocolate & sprinkles). My eating habits aren't as good during the third trimester.

My theory about DD, the colors make me want to pull over & eat when I see the sign.

How I love you.

You're too much. My cousin grew up in TN and moved to RI after she married. She quickly became a Coolatta addict, as she hadn't had a Dunkin' Donuts before.
I'm in CT, and they're everywhere, four to a small town. It's crazy.
For what it's worth, the Gingerbread Latte is a bit chemically-tasting. I much prefer a Starbuck's Pumpkin Spice. You must have a Starbucks in CO!

I've never been huge on Dunkin', but for gingerbread latte I might chnage my mind. And there's one on the way home...

Love the hat. The colors are awesome, whether they're donut related or not :)

You. Are. Hysterical. AND, your hat is making me hungry. But you must admit, the doughnut snowman at KK is cute......

You're totally on fire. Your hair is also seeming strangely LONG in these shots, hmmm. FYI, J-La is, and has been as long as I've known him, obsessed with donuts. And to the best of my knowledge he's never had a DD. True story! (If DD exists in CA I'm not sure where. Not in Berkeley.) We did, however, just learn through the TV that DD coffee will soon be available in stores in CA. Which is weird since the franchise isn't here. I guess the coffee must be for all us east coast transplants?

We are completely lacking Dunkin' Donuts in Seattle too. We have Krispy Kreme but it's not at all the same thing. Sigh...

Nice hat! I didn't realize we didn't have *any* Dunkin' Donuts but did notice I've never seen one. Bummer. I've really gotten addicted to Lamars lately. Hmmm... A donut for lunch is fine right?

You are so right. When Henderson's (donuts) closed at 26th and Kipling, a little light went out of my world.

Lamar's aren't bad...

Too funny! I moved to Maine from CO, so I remember when they had them there, but it's crazy with DDs here in New England. Some places in Mass even have them across the street from each other - lest you have to make a left turn! My little town has one regular one and one in a gas station - but no drive-throughs :(

So not with you and the whole DD thing. Having lived in an area with only DDs for the past 12 or so years, I just don't get it. Granted, they make a pretty fair cruller (okay, those are damn fine), but the coffee has one of the most odd tastes ever. The only way I can make it taste "correct" is to add an extra shot of espresso and hope for the best. Now, Starbucks is another story altogether . . . love that poison.

I have yet to experience DD. But as soon as I see one, I'm there. I have a friend that's from Boston and she swears by their coffee Although, I doubt I'll like it with my background.

So you've spawned this odd little day dream - I've got this image of you & me roadtripping to Portland in a big black convertable- taking a pilgramage to here: http://voodoodoughnut.com/
I think that's worth leaving our kids and driving 1000 miles- don't you???

Knit Secret, huh? Too funny. When i first moved out here in '95 there were a couple DD around, but now they're all gone. Too bad, b/c I enjoy their coffee when I'm on the east coast.

Please...I NEED a donut and hot chocolate. Pretty please?!
